Research Interest

Primary research interests include examining issues of resilience and vulnerability in children and adolescents, especially those from ethnic minority backgrounds. Specifically, I am interested in examining the roles of parental involvement, teacher support, achievement patterns, and psychosocial outcomes in ethnic minority children and adolescents. The primary goal of my research is to examine how parents contribute to the educational and life outcomes of students and how key contextual variables contribute to the success of ethnic minority children and adolescents from low-income, low-resource communities. In addition, I am also interested in examining variables that contribute to success in higher education for students, especially those from ethnic minority backgrounds. The purpose of this research is to examine perceived and/or actually barriers to higher education for minority students.
