Development of Masters Reading Specialist Program to be taught at Montgomery College University Center.. Approved Fall, 1996; Admissions, Spring, 1997; Initial Course, Summer, 1997. Currently approximately 15 master’s students are enrolled in that cohort.

B. Course Development--Courses offered for the first time in 1998-1999

1. CUIN 6397, Secondary Reading Programs. Was taught for the first time in Summer, 1998; to be submitted for review as a new course in 2000.

2. CUIN 8380, Action Research in Educational Settings. Approved by CUIN and COE fall, 1998. Approved as option in doctoral research core, Spring, 2000.

C. Instructional Materials Development—1998-2000

1. Materials to support the field experience component of CUIN 6330, Literacy Assessment & Instruction for Diverse Learners; collaboration with public school administrators and faculty to provide quality field experiences.

2. On-line course development for CUIN 8380, Action Research in Educational Settings and CUIN 6365, Teacher As Researcher. Web-based support for these courses will be integrated into the Literacy Inquiry NetworK website, to go on-line in August, 1999. Teacher As Researcher will be offered as an on-line course in the spring of 2000.

In conjunction with these web-based materials will be on-line guides and asynchronous dialogue groups for teacher study groups on the following topics:
a. Primary Reading Assessment
b. Engaged and Strategic Reading Beyond the Primary Grades
c. Reading Strategies for Content Area Textbooks
d. Collaborative Family Inquiry
