Biographical Data

Ron W. Wilhelm, professor in the department of teacher education and administration at the University of North Texas, teaches courses in multicultural education, curriculum implementation and evaluation, and qualitative research methods. He has served as president of the American Association for Teaching and Curriculum and was founding president of the Texas Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education. He has served as counselor for Alpha Iota Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society since 1992. He has guest edited three special issues of the National Council for the Social Studies journal
Social studies and the young learner on teaching about multicultural education, human rights, and Latin America. In 2000, he received a Fulbright Senior Scholar research/lecturer award to the Universidad de Concepción in Chile and currently is Fulbright Senior Specialist Candidate. Since 2001 he has been a visiting professor in the Facultad de Educación at the Universidad de Concepción. In 2003, the University of North Texas recognized him for outstanding teaching and scholarship with the Toulouse Scholars Award. In 2004, Dr. Wilhelm was named director of the Center for the Study of Education Reform. In 2005 he was awarded the International Education Award from the College of Education. He also serves as a UNT Ally.

 

Current
Projects

Projects Dr. Wilhelm’s research focuses on culturally responsive teaching, particularly related to the educational needs of Spanish-speaking immigrant children, and on cultural identity formation in pre-service teachers. In 2004 Dr. Wilhelm served as principal interviewer in a joint Kappa Delta Pi and UNT Texas Center for Educational Technology project to collect the thoughts of leading educators on their work and their views on the status of education in the U. S. today. The interviews are posted on the “Laureate Interview” link of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi website.
