The University of North Texas has numerous service learning opportunities available for students to gain experience working with individuals with disabilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Each year over 250 Kinesiology students enrolled KINE 3020 Movement for Special Populations complete nearly 4000 hours of community service in the metroplex. In addition, KINE 3020 includes a Physical Activity Program for children with disabilities.
Children's Physical Activity Program
Program detail: The program is part of the undergraduate course Movement for Special Populations which is a core class for Kinesiology students. Students in the Kinesiology program are interested in becoming physical educators, coaches, physical and occupational therapists at graduation. During the program Kinesiology students are placed in groups of 2-4 and they provide physical activity services to children to reinforce what they are learning in PE or at home. UNT students write lesson plans and teach the children skills/games etc across the course of the semester. Peers and siblings are welcome as always.

Cost: The program is free. Parents will be provided with a parking permit that can be used for the semester at the beginning of the program.
Where: - The program takes place in the Physical Education Building (PEB) in the gymnasium off Highland or Chestnut (http://www.unt.edu/pais/map/campusmap.htm). Visitor booths are marked with stars on the map where you can pick up a parking pass.
